Deleting photos from my media library
-
I have a couple of questions.
1) If I delete photos from my ‘WordPress Library’ to free up space, will they also be deleted from the already published posts?
2) I noticed I also have the option of adding photos from my ‘Google library’–were I to add photos from here, would they be copied into my WordPress library? or would I be able to use them directly from Google without taking up more space in WP?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,

Deleted files cannot be recovered. If the file is being used in a blog post or page on your site, the file will also be permanently deleted from that post or page.

All media is copied to your WordPress library and counts towards your space allowance.
Click on below link to know more about it.

Thank you for your help.
Is there any way I can see all together which photos in my library are not currently in posts? so that I can delete those?

Hello,
Why not? Go to https://deepbrightbecoming.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php and select unattached.
Just be careful while deleting in bulk. Stay safe.
Thanks.

Hi,
I hope you don’t mind me adding in,
Is there any way I can see all together which photos in my library are not currently in posts? so that I can delete those?
Why not? Go to https://deepbrightbecoming.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php and select unattached.
When you add media in post content or as featured image, it will still be attached to the same post if you delete them from the post. It is not updating as unattached.
Let me know if I have misunderstood it.
Thanks, -
Hello pranaliwp,
Media lists images which have been not embded in to any post or page considered as
“unattached” image. But if you want to save up some space you could use jpg images rather than large png files.
Following is a good article on how to optimize images.

Hello there, There are several reasons why a photo might be “unattached” and I would not recommend deleting images unless you are absolutely certain it is not being used anywhere on your site.
Do you have some concern that you’ve used up all your 3GB free space? You can check that in your Media Library https://wordpress.com/media/deepbrightbecoming.wordpress.com and in the upper right corner of the web page it will tell you what percentage you’ve used so far.
Let us know how that goes.
