Deleting Pictures
-
How do you delete a picture from a page that has already been posted without deleting the whole page?
-
You should be able to edit the page. Then you can just delete the picture from within the editor.
-
If you also wish to delete the image from your uploads file this can be done here -> Manage -> Uploads
Locate the image and click on it – options to edit or delete the image will be presented – delete the image. -
There’s a bit of a glitch, though, Timethief, in that if you delete the picture and then re-upload it with the same name, the old one will appear (despite cache-clearing, the cookie dance etc.).
Not sure if that is a time lag issue (like updating sidebars) or if it’s permanent, but the way arouind it is to save the picture with a new name and upload the new one.

My bad. I do know that if we do not rename the new version of an uploaded image then we get the first one we uploaded by that name. I simply forgot to state it here so thanks for chiming in. -
@energetic: I just tested and can’t reproduce the issue you describe with deleting and re-uploading an image with the same name. Can you list the exact steps you’re taking and the results you see please?
-
In case energetic isn’t around at the moment. Where I have seen this is if you upload an image and insert it into a post then delete the image in manage > uploads and upload another changed or different image with the same name, the first image will still show up in the post no matter if you force reload or clear the cache or what have you. What you have to do is upload the new image with a different name and then change the image link in the post to the new image.

I have never waited long enough after uploading a different image (after first deleting the other one in manage > uploads) with the same name to see if perhaps it is an image server caching issue (i.e. it straightens itself out after an hour or two or three or four) simply because I don’t want the wrong image appearing in the post for an hour or two or three or four.
I should also note that after deleting an image at manage > uploads I’ve seen it still there an hour or so after I deleted it sometimes showing the thumbnail display of the image I deleted, and sometimes just a grey box.

@tsp: I just followed your general steps and it works fine for me. General steps are not enough to isolate this problem. I need to know the exact steps to reproduce: every click, and exactly what page or URL you are looking at when you see the incorrect image.

@tellyworth
Damn, I just tried it and it worked this time, but I’ve personally been caught with it before (on more than one occasion) where I could not get the image to change without changing the name and then changing the link in the post. I also know others have had the same problem and when we told them to change the name and then change the link in the post to the new name it worked. -
I can confirm that this has happened to me as well. I’ve had to change the image name in order to get the new image to show.

Sorry I missed the replies here, but I can confirm tsp and tt and vp’s experience.
Every time I delete an image and then upload a similar new version of that image with the same name, the old one appears on my site.
Like tsp, I’ve never waited long enough to see if it’s a permanent problem or just a server cache issue. For the same reasons.
