Deleting Pictures from Media Library.
-
I deleted pictures from my media library yesterday, figuring that I would rather not spend on a space upgrade later.
Today, some images are not loading on my blog – http://gundu8.wordpress.com/
I was wondering if this has anything to do with what I did yesterday?
Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Depends on what you deleted. If you delete images inserted in posts, then of cource they’ll vanish from the posts too. But I checked two of your missing ones, and that’s not the case: the URLs are ok, and they link to an existing file; so it’s probably a server issue.
Another thing you must be careful with is the file names of the images. I noticed you’re using names such as a5, c11 etc. See here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/problems-with-loading-of-images?replies=11#post-308305But you needn’t worry about space so soon: your free space is enough for thousands of images (as long as you’re uploading suitably small files – which you’re doing).

Oh I have deleted all pictures from my library but some show up on the blog anyway and some don’t, and what shows up is sometimes random, although not anymore. If it was a sure thing that pictures vanish from the blog if deleted from the library, why do they still show up? Strange.
Anyway since I have just started the blog and can re-post everything without much effort, should I just go ahead and re-post all posts and not delete pictures from the library in the future? (I use Windows Live Writer.)
And thank you for mentioning the issue with naming of pictures.
Cheers.

You’re welcome.
Yes it’s a sure thing. When you upload an image to your blog, you create a copy of it which is stored by wp. That copy is the one you see in your Media Library: if you delete it from your ML, it’s gone. A post with that image will still have the URL of that image, but that URL will give a file-not-found response and an x or a ? in the post.
But that doesn’t necessarily happen right away: the images you delete aren’t removed immediately. Plus (depending on the browser you’re using) you may be seeing a cached version of your page. At the moment I can see all the images in your latest post, and questionmarks for all the rest.
You don’t have to repost the posts: you can simply reupload the images via the Add an Image button of the post editor.

It’s called a Media Library because when someone loads the page, WP.com goes to the Media Library and gets the images asked for, just like taking a book out. When you delete those images, they’re not there anymore.
This is becoming increasingly common: somewhere, some either malevolent or incompetent “internet guru” is teaching people this is a good idea. I want to find him, and I want to stomp him, because he is causing a lot of extra work and grief for people. It’s too common, all of a sudden, for this idea to have spontaneously occurred to this many people just now, when in three years it never happened before.

Thank you both of you.
@ raincoaster: That internet guru must indeed be caught, but rest assured this was my very own grand idea:) I first deleted one pic and still saw it on the blog, and then proceeded to delete everything. Too clever for my own good.
