Deleting sensitive information about a child on a comment on someone else's blog

I made the terrible mistake of revealing a lot of personal information (birthdate and problems she has) about my young daughter on a Chinese astrologer’s website with my real first name on it. I did this in the hope of obtaining some practical advice to these problems. Yet the guy not only is refusing to give me the advice, he is leaving the comment with all that information visible to the public on his blog. I asked him to please remove the comment I made since he wasn’t going to act on it, plus by leaving it there for all to see, it could potentially embarass my daughter years down the line if someone just googles her birthdate and sees it written by me and knows I am her mum. Or even cause professional problems. The comment has been awaiting moderation for days and I suspectthe guy is refusing to delete the comment I made with the information. The Chinese astrologer has been online every day and even responded and approved other people’s posts, but refuses to approve mine. Or delete it as per my request. I know he probably wants the post to stay up as a warning to others that he is refusing to answer such requests for free unless he is being paid for it. But since it involves a young child with potentially reputation-damaging consequences, could WordPress not step in and delete my comment for me please, since the guy owns a WordPress.com blog? There must be some law or regulation surrounding internet ethics with WordPress blogs I hope? And lastly yes I have been losing sleep over this and blaming myself enough for this foolishness of mine. This is just a last resort I have for seeking some help with this. I just want that comment I made deleted, and I will try every avenue until I succeed. I appreciate any help with this.

I researched and found some information about EU and American privacy laws, data protection, personal information of minors given out publicly without their consent. As we reside in UK, it applies I think. But the blogger resides in Malaysia?

  • Hi – Please tell me which site you left the comment on and I’ll be happy to take a look and see what we can do.
