Deleting Site

I have a similar problem to others. See below.
Attempt 1: From within my WP site I go to Settings -> General -> Delete your site permanently and get the following message: “We are still in the process of removing your previous plan. Please check back in a few minutes and you’ll be able to delete your site.” It’s been saying this for a few days now so not sure what else to do. If you have ideas let me know.
Attempt 2: WordPress account profile -> Account settings -> Close your account permanently and I get the following error: “We are still in the process of removing one or more of your sites. This process normally takes 15-20 minutes. Once removal is completed, you should be able to close your account from this page.”
So I’m kind of stuck and unable to use my domain on an alternative site.

Hi there,
It appears your site got stuck in the process of downgrading after removing the plan. I went ahead and manually completed that downgrade process, so now you should be able to delete that site from the Settings ⇢ General section of your WordPress.com Dashboard. Once all sites owned by that account have been deleted, you should be able to delete your account in the way you mention from the Account Settings section of your WordPress.com/me dashboard you mention.
