Deleting spam

I was in my dashboard and saw 72 spam items. I clicked on the top button to choose all I hit delete now. It took four trips through this process. Why.
Then I had a comment to Trash. So I did, and again saw this time 73 spam items. This time 5 trips, 20 items, the last for one item.
Why is this necessary?

The blog is not sciencesprings, it is musicsprings. I guess sciencesprings is my default.
Why do we need defaults? Why could this not have been credited to http://musicsprings.wordpress.com ?

Hi there,
It is not necessary to delete comments from the spam folder. If they land in that folder it means they’ve already been filtered out and won’t appear on your site, and they’ll be deleted automatically within 30 days. You don’t need to do anything.
However, if this really bothers you there is also an Empty Spam button in the dashboard that you can use to just remove it all at once.
