Deleting Tables
-
We have a plugin that when installed adds tables to the database, but a user has had them all deleted randomly?
Does wordpress.com remove tables that are not prefixed with their ‘wp_’ setup in the wp-config.php file? ours are all prefixed with ‘ec_’ in the plugin and they were just randomly removed…
possibly through a database move or from a migration to a new mysql db, I’m wondering if wordpress.com hosting plans will also capture the full database, not just tables they feel are attached to wordpress?

Hi there,
This forum provides end-user support for site owners of free sites hosted on WordPress.com. We cannot offer developer-level support regarding compatibility of third party plugins with WordPress.com’s hosting setup here.
Did what you’re describing happen on a WordPress.com Business Plan site? If so, we’d need the owner of that site to contact us via our live chat support so that we can look at the actual site to see what happened.
If necessary, we can then cc you in any email follow-up we do in that case, but it would have to happen at the site owner’s request.

So we are the developers of WP EasyCart, and we are trying to work with wordpress.com hosting so that we can resolve this issue that may be a bigger issue.
We don’t have a business plan, many of our customers have had them… but we need more business to business communication paths here? or do you have a way to communicate from a business to business? I’m happy to go that route.
As of right now, we can only tell our user base to avoid wordpress.com hosting as it’s proprietary and has some issues such as these DB issues that crop up once in a while… but let me know, I’m happy to discuss with someone and work out compatibility issues if there are some.
thanks

Hi @level4designs, that makes sense.
Regarding the specific question about tables deletion, we actively watch for plugins that allow table deletion so that users can’t do that:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incompatible-plugins/#database-file-system-altering-pluginsAnd we certainly don’t dump tables based on prefix.
If they lost tables there was most likely a bug. Our business support team should be able to help if they will contact us directly, via https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ . And as @kokkieh mentioned, at their request we can work via email and CC you so you’re in the loop.
About other users having issues, if they’re kind of one off weird things like that (I’m assuming there was just one user with deleted tables, if not let us know) then having the user contact us and request to include you is the best way to go, because we wouldn’t be able to make changes to a user’s site without their direct authorization.
But for your own testing and what not, I’ll reach out privately via email to see what we can do for you. Cheers :)
