Deleting the ‘Nothing Found’ page once I’ve deleted the website?

    Hi There,

I’ve tried to delete my old website but a “Nothing Found” page is still active and is the first search result when my brand is googled.

Can anyone tell me the steps to remove everything about my old site?
There are no other purchases / upgrades etc that I need to consider [as stated in other wordpress support pages]

    Thanks in advance

“Nothing Found” is not the usual message when a WordPress.com website is deleted. It’s something like

    yoursite.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.

“Nothing Found” usually means you’ve deleted the content of your site, but haven’t yet deleted the site itself.

Can you please share a link to the site in question so we can have a look? Thanks.

Thank you for your help. I’ve tried to make it private in the hopes it would maybe help but it’s still active to some degreee???

You succeeded in making it Private, so the only thing visible to visitors is this message

    Private Site

This site is currently private. If you would like to request access, we’ll send your username to the site owner for approval.

When a site is Private, the site content is not available to either human or robot visitors. But you are correct that the site address is still “active.”

If you are concerned that your WordPress.com site still shows up in search engine results, you’ll want to query the help pages for each search engine on how to remove your site from them. Here’s a result from Google Help https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/11080680

However, whether Private or deleted, search engine results will eventually drop for your WordPress.com site. This takes time and there is nothing that WordPress.com can do to help speed up that process.

Another option is to purchase a Site Redirect upgrade so that any traffic to your WordPress.com website is redirected to your new site https://wordpress.com/support/site-redirect/ However, there are some limitations mentioned there. Site redirects on WordPress.com are 301 Permanent, so it’s telling search engines that you’ve permanently moved.

    Hope that helps.

And this support guide in case you decide to delete your WordPress.com website, which will then display the message I mentioned in my earlier reply (this is less favorable to the redirect option IMO).
