Deleting WordPress site when not the primary account holder
-
Hello all,
I’m working with an organization who had a WordPress page a few years ago, but have since bought a new domain and are now using that as their main website. They’ve had a falling out with the person who originally created their WordPress platform, and because of this she is refusing to take down the old site. Having the WordPress page still active is detracting from the search ranking of the new page, but as this other person is the primary account holder they have no way to disconnect or delete the page. Has anyone run into this problem before? Is there a way for them to delete the page (or at least not have it show up in searches) without the support of the account holder? Or are they doomed to the second Google results page forever?

Thanks from New York!

There is no way to delete a WordPress.com site without the permission of the site owner. To allow a third party to delete a site would be a significant security lapse on our end.
While I have no doubt that your situation is on the up and up, there really is no way for us to verify such a thing. Thus, we need to be fairly straightforward about only allowing site owners to take actions such as deletion.

If you have access to the site as an Editor or above you can edit the old Posts & Pages to remove the content from a site – but the material would still be on the internet so the owner could then revoke your edit privilege and just get the material from search engine cache
Get a lawyer and turn them loose on the old owner is about your only option – maybe stern letter would get their attention – other than that a lawsuit compelling the person to hand over the keys to the side and clear the content is about your only option other than try to out search the old site
