Deleting WP as Host

I bought the $17 web hosting package from WP, then found that my site url would be: [domain name].wordpress.com, which I did NOT want. So I checked whosis and saw I owned the domain name, and thus signed up to HostGator and loaded WP via fantastico. Then when I tried to log in to the admin cp I was redirected from http://%5Bdomain name].com/wp-admin to

    http://%5Bdomain name].wordpress.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F[domain name].wordpress.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

I assume this is because both WP and HostGator are hosting my site.

Does anyone out there know how to delete WP as your site host?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Without giving us the domain name, it is virtually impossible for us to say, but likely the domain mapping is in effect and needs to be undone. Give us the domain name and we can check further.

Also if you have domain.com and map it correctly to a site here, your site will appear under domain.com. It just has to be mapped correctly.

And the $17 isn’t a web hosting package. That is just the cost for a domain name of your choosing and the domain mapping. The blog is still physically located here on the wordpress.com servers, but appears under your chosen domain name.

Your domain name is still pointing at wordpress.com. You have to go to settings > domains and then edit the DNS records and put in the hostgator nameservers that they would have given you in the welcome email. After doing that, it will be anywhere from a few hours to as many as 72 before the change will propagate throughout the entire internet. There is nothing that can be done about the time. It takes as long as it takes. How soon you will see the change depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS caches.

Also, in the domain management section set your primary site back to the wordpress.com URL.

See #4 and #8 in this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/ .
