deletingmedia does not give me more space

I reached the maximum capacity for my blog so I deleted a bunch of old photos from my media. But the used space stays the same. I hoped I would have created more space by deleting some content. Any ideas on the why?

Of what site are you speaking? http://svendeschutter.wordpress.com/ is currently only using 6% of the storage space available, and I don’t see any evidence of recently deleted media files in that site’s logs.
That said, please be aware that if you delete media files from the library, those images will also disappear from any old posts where they had been used.

Okay, it does appear that the space used indicator on that site was stuck. I’ve forced a refresh, and it is now showing slightly lower storage, but not much. However, looking at the file sizes of the images you deleted recently, it does appear to be correct.
In other words, you will need to delete many more images to make a meaningful dent in your storage usage, and as I said above that will also remove those images from any posts where there had been added, so you might want to reconsider this.
If you’re not interested in upgrading to one of our plans to increase your storage, another option could be to create a new free site, and export some of your old content to the new site. Then delete that content from the existing site – you’ll need to delete the posts and media files separately, though.
Or you can “archive” the existing site and start fresh on a new site – we can move your existing followers to the new site for you if you decide to go that route.

It looks like this might be a bug, as I’ve seen a couple other reports as well. I’ve reported the issue to one of our developers to take a look. I’ll let you know once I hear back from him.

As I said above, this appears to be a bug. We’ve reported the problem, but I won’t know any more until a developer has had time to look into this.

Just an update – the cause of this bug has been found, and we’re working on getting it fixed. I’ll let you know once it is and the files in your library has been properly deleted.
