Deletion of site – will i lose the domain name for good?

I have created a new WordPress site under someone else’s log-in. If they delete the site will the domain name still be available for me to take or will it be deleted for good and unavailable to anyone in the future?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you delete a site, nobody will be able to use that name in the future, including you. If you are just wanting to move it to your account, WordPress.com allows you to transfer sites to another WordPress.com account:
