Delicious – what does it do for a blog – basic question
-
Greetings,
I am trying to figure out whether Delicious would be useful for a blog that we have started at WorldUnderstandingAndPeace.com on WordPress.com.
I know a bit about Delicious – as as way of bookmarking on the web, and ….
If we were to put the Delicious widget on our blog – what would it do for the blog. Would it allow a visitor to use it to add to their Delicious bookmarks – or to some public bookmark? I am thinking that is what it will do – but want to make sure that I am not missing something.
Thanks for the clarification….

Put simply Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking service for people to share and discover webpages. If you have a Del.icio.us account then any websites you bookmark will be displayed under your username at Del.icio.us. What the widget does is to take those bookmarks and display them in your sidebar. It’s similar to having links in your blogroll, except Del.icio.us updates whenever you bookmark a new site; so the links in the widget can change, while the blogroll doesn’t.
It could be useful to you as a way of directing visitors to sites which are relevant to your blog or to new content. If what you want is to let people bookmark your blog in Del.icio.us as well, the widget won’t do that. But there’s an easy way to do it; you just add a little icon to your posts and if they click it, it’ll take them to Del.icio.us to bookmark it. Sanjida has some simple instructions on how to do that. :)
