  Pasting from MS word brings a lot of nasty code format
  because MS Word doesn’t speak HTML so you run in to the
  formatting issues you mentioned above.

  I recommend using Windows Live Writer this is Microsofts
  solution to MS Word.

  If you are using Word 2007 you should be fine, there’s no need to get Windows Live Writer in that case.
