  Are there any free themes that come with demo content/.xml files or do only pro themes have this?

  Hello there,

  May you please provide the URL of the site you are working on.

  As far as demo content on WordPress.com some themes, even the free ones will offer you the choice to replace the homepage content with their placeholder content, see the image below
  
  Please note this is just for the homepage and sometimes it does not look exactly right or the same ( happened to me once )

  Most of the themes in the WordPress.com directory have an info/setup section that when you follow it to the T, you can be able to replicate the way the theme is showcased. You can read more about that here: https://wordpress.com/support/themes/#my-theme-doesnt-look-like-the-demo

  Only custom themes will sometimes have demo content and .xml files and you will need to be on the business or eCommerce plan to have the ability to upload these.
