DePo Masthead, HTML tags don’t work

I’m attempting to use the DePo Masthead theme and in general I think it is a great theme for what I am trying to use it for. However, with that said, I am having a really strange issue in which some of my html tags, most importantly the subscript and superscript are not functioning at all. For example, in one post I am trying to put a subscript with the word ‘air’ onto the letter ‘F’ to reference a force from air resistance and I’m putting in my html as Fair</air>. and yet, it just shows up as Fair. I’m at a complete loss as to how this could possibly be happening but I’m positive it is the theme and not my browser. I’ve tried it on the must current versions of Safari and Chrome and it does this on both and only with this wordpress theme. I’d love to keep using it but I need subscripts and superscripts so often that it might end up being a deal breaker.

Just for clarification, I actually said I was inputing Fair</air> when I meant to say I am putting in Fair. That was just a mistype for the question and I have it input correctly in my actual posts.
