description categories migration
-
Hello there,
I have have XML files of the site, the tag description was entered natively, but they are not in the data.
At least, reviewing 2 of the files. If you think all the descriptions will be in only one file, then I will need to check all the 59 files.Do you mean they’re not in the data of the XML files you downloaded, in addition to not having been imported into the site?
With them being added natively, we’d expect them to be in one file if everything was downloaded into one file from the old site.
Could you check the files? As mentioned in the previous response, the importer will skip any existing content already on the new site.
Let us know how it goes and have a nice day!

Yes, the descriptions are not in the data of the XML files I downloaded.
You say: “With them being added natively, we’d expect them to be in one file if everything was downloaded into one file from the old site.” By added natively, I mean I wrote the descriptions in mysite.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=post_tag.
As I told you, the “everything” migration in one file was not possible from a multisite, so I downloaded by months using xml files.
I check all the files, there are not the tag descriptions on any of the files.

Ok, I think we’re finally getting somewhere. Can you walk us through how you created the export XML files? In a typical WordPress export, if you choose anything other than the full “all content” export -which includes all of your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, terms, navigation menus, and custom posts – taxonomy items like categories and tags aren’t included.
I’m not an expert in multisite installations, but I assume it has a similar export functionality. Also, are you trying to take all the sites from a multisite and import them into one site here?
However, since you mention there are no tag descriptions in the file, that appears to be the issue. Without the data in the file, we don’t know what to import. I would recommend trying a test export of a single site on the multisite network using the “all content” option and seeing if that fixes the description problem.

Hi. You say “taxonomy items like categories and tags aren’t included.” But, indeed, taxonomy items like categories and tags are included. What are not included are the descriptions.
You say: ” I would recommend trying a test export of a single site on the multisite network using the “all content” option and seeing if that fixes the description problem.” As I told you in this forum, the “all content” option is not able to export 700.000 kb. So, what is the purpose of this?
Thanks in advance.

Also, the question, for all users of wordpress, are: If I want to export, for example, all the posts of one user, then all the descriptions of the taxonomies will be not exported. Why?

Hey there,
Thanks for reaching back out.

All content should export all content from all avenues, including those in the custom post type.
I hope this helps, please keep us update on how you’re getting on with that import.
