deselect categories using bulk edit

  I have more than 140 posts under “uncategorized” category and now am working on categorization.
  I set up some categories and used “bulk” edit to apply categories to posts, but it ended up with the “uncategorized” category remained with each post. I seem to have no way to deselect categories which have already been assigned by “bulk” edit.

  It’s really a lot of work if I have to go into each post and uncheck the “uncategorized” category.
  I will appreciate if I can deselect categories using bulk edit. Or any other thoughts that make categorization easier would be appreciate too.

  That is an apparent shortcoming of the bulk edit feature and makes it far less useful than it could be. There is however a workaround of sorts.

  Go to settings > writing and set a default post category to something other than uncategorized and click save changes. Now go to posts > categories and delete uncategorized.

  Send a note into staff though and ask them to add this. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ .

  Thank you very much. It seems the best way to remove the “uncategorized” lable for posts. (I do need the “uncategorized” category for posts with no specific topic, though.)

  And I will send a note to staff.

  I really appreciate your suggestions.

  You’re welcome.

  After doing the above and deleting the uncategorized category then you can add it back in if you wish and the posts that HAD been assigned to that category should stay assigned to the “default” category and not revert back.

  I think I found out what I can do.

  Set a default post category to something other than “uncategorized”,
  Delete “uncategorized”,
  Set again a “uncategorized” category as default post category,
  And delete the category set at the first step.

  So that I can remove the “uncategorized” lable for posts assigned to other categories and at the meanwhile, posts assigned to “uncategorized” would remain uncategorized.
