Designing a hotel website?
-
Hello, soon I will be designing with wordpress.com a website for SERVICED APARTMENTS. Before I begin, I would like to gather relevant information.
1. The website will include around 130 apartments. Can wordpress operate at that capacity?
2. Are booking systems included? or used through plugins?
3. Do I select the e-commerce plan for this type of website ?
4. I noticed that wordpress does not offer themes for real-estate or hotel website. where can I find suitable themes?
5. Does e-commerce plan approve payments from all countries around the world?
6. In the future will I be able to transfer this website to wrodpress.org platform? what will that require?Any added information about this subject will be great
Thank you

Hello there,
Happy to help you with this – let’s great straight to it.
1. The website will include around 130 apartments. Can wordpress operate at that capacity?
Yes – I’d recommend picking a theme that would have apartments as a custom post types and bookings built in.
2. Are booking systems included? or used through plugins?
It can be a bit of both. I’d recommend using a theme where bookings are built in with the theme in mind. You’ll find these kinds of themes here: https://themeforest.net/category/wordpress?term=hotel%20booking
3. Do I select the e-commerce plan for this type of website ?
The business plan, should be enough. If you require the ecommerce plan later on, you can upgrade and we’d take into account the current subscription.
4. I noticed that wordpress does not offer themes for real-estate or hotel website. where can I find suitable themes?
Please see the link above.
5. Does e-commerce plan approve payments from all countries around the world?
This is not so much down to the plan, but the payment gateway in use with the site.
6. In the future will I be able to transfer this website to wrodpress.org platform? what will that require?
WordPress.org isn’t a platform, it’s just where the free open source version of the software is hosted.
To move the site (which is possible), you would need to source hosting.

Thank you so much for your response. It was very helpful. If it is ok, I would like to ask a few more questions.
You mentioned that bookings are built in with the theme. Did you mean only internal? Since we are working with multiple agents such as Airbnb and Booking, I would need a booking system that will be able to Syncronys its booking calendar with all platforms. Is that a plugin that’s necessary? Does WordPress work with cloud-based booking systems? if so, is there a reccomended plugin?
Also, if I go with the business plan, how do I know from which countries I can receive payments from because that is crucial for us to know.
Lastly, are there additional websites that WordPress works with and that offer these types of themes? I would like to scan all the options
Thank you

Hello Danyelle,
You mentioned that bookings are built in with the theme.
So what I mean by that, is certain themes will come bundled in with the necessary booking plugins built in or in mind (so the styling is already done, the functions are working…etc).
With regards to third party booking systems, it would up to those systems to build plugins or integrate outside of their platform.
A Google search of “WordPress and AirBnB” brought me to this system here: https://www.wpbookingsystem.com/ which could be run on the business plan.
I’d recommend making a list of agents, and asking those agents how they integrate with WordPress. The onus would be for them to integrate with WordPress, not the other way round. (I hope that makes sense – it’s the nature of open source software).
Also, if I go with the business plan, how do I know from which countries I can receive payments from because that is crucial for us to know.
The business plan wouldn’t dictate who can see your site, or where you take payments from. The payment gateway and/or system you use would.
Lastly, are there additional websites that WordPress works with and that offer these types of themes? I would like to scan all the options
There’s the WordPress theme repo: https://wordpress.org/themes/ , that said, Themeforest would probably be a better suit because of the functionality on offer and your requirements.
This sounds like quite a sizeable project, so I’d like to also highlight our Built by WP service here: https://builtbywp.com/
Hoping this helps.

Thank you so much for this thorough information. We will go ahead and begin our project. If it is not too late to ask one more question. We are planning to invest heavily in website marketing, will the fact that it is a theme website, affect our targeting and SEO? my fear is that if we will not be satisfied with a certain theme and be forced to change to another theme, then the switch will affect SEO.

Generally, changing themes doesn’t affect SEO significantly. Search engines care more about the content and meta information and URL structure. Think of changing the theme as changing the color of your house. The address is the same, the contents of the house are the same, the people who live there are the same…. the outside just looks a little different.
