The Website I want to create will consist of certainly hundreds of thousands of people telling personal stories of their lives.
Is this a model that would work on WordPress? -
There is no limit to how many words can be written on a WordPress.com site but there are limits on storage space for media and images unless you choose the Business plan.
Are you going to be writing the hundreds of thousands of stories yourself? If you want people to add content to your site you’d need to add them as contributors and they would need a WordPress.com account to access your site.

The stories will be told by the people who have had the experience.
Can these people become contributors on their own when they visit the site or will this require a special intervention on each persons entry?
