Desktop App Switches to Foreign Language, How Do I fix This?
-
Whenever I install the Windows Desktop App, the login screen starts in English but switches to a foreign language when I get to the send a login link screen. I’ve never had this issue before. How can I resolve this? I’m using a Google email link to log in if that helps.

Hi there!
Could you try uninstalling the WordPress desktop app completely and reinstall it to see if that helps? If it doesn’t, please take a screenshot of what you see when it switches to a foreign language and upload it to your media library here: https://wordpress.com/media
We can then take a look at the screenshot and assist accordingly.

I did a fresh reinstall of the desktop app and the issue persists. I have uploaded a screenshot as requested.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that information and screenshot.
Can you provide a link as to where that was downloaded please?
Many thanks.

Hello there,
Many thanks for that – that looks like the correct location.
Ok, can you detail the exact steps you’re making prior to the language changing please?
Many thanks in advance.

I install the desktop app, the enter email/site address/username login screen pops up, and I enter my email. The login screen then goes to another login screen but in various foreign languages. (Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, etc) and I can’t log in at all. I can enter my login info but the button below is grayed out.

Hi there,
We have not seen other reports of this issue, and since you mention you have already re-installed the app it has us thinking that it may be an issue with the app data stored on your computer.
With this in mind can you pease quit the app, and then delete the Application Data directory, which can be found at
C:Users<username>AppDataRoamingWordPress.com(Windows 10).
The application data folder can be hidden on Windows, so a neat trick to finding it is entering%appdata%in the Cortana search bar.If you then restart the app do you continue to have this login language issue? Thanks for the additional info!

Yes, I have done the steps above and reinstalled the app but the issue persists.
I’m thinking the only way to resolve this on my end is to do a factory reset on my PC. But thank you for trying to help. :-)
-
Before you do that, do you have access to another Windows PC you can test this on?
That would at least rule-out if the issue is with your account here, or the PC itself.
-
Sorry for the late response.
I tried the app on another Windows PC and everything worked fine. I created my WordPress account with my Google account, could that be the issue?
-
Hm, that’s odd, so it is definitely that specific PC, not the account.
What language is that PC set to?
-
Sorry for the late response.
My PC is set to United States/English.
I did a factory reset and the foreign language issue isn’t resolved. -
Sounds like this is an issue that affects only one of your computers but not others. Can you tell us the Operating System and version number of your computer? Also what is the version number of the WordPress app you have installed on that computer?
This info will help us to take a closer look, thanks!

This will sound weird, but I’ve fixed the issue. I was logged into my account on the web and the “Install WordPress” icon appeared in the address bar. I reinstalled the app from there, and it seems to work fine so far.
I will update if the issue arises again. Thank you for the help. :-)
