desktop application fails

    For the last few weeks the Windows 10 desktop application has been unable to detect that I am connected to the internet. I have full bandwidth, constant connection and the application refuses to load, saying it cannot connect to your servers. today it stopped loading altogether after giving error messages about there being no network. There most CERTAINLY IS a network, I am on it right now to access the web-based platform. I CANNOT be using the browser for this blog; I need to use the desktop application. Sadly it’s been badly plagued by this and similar errors and bugs for more than a year. If I cannot use the desktop application then I cannot blog. Indeed, there have been vastly fewer posts since this app broke and won’t connect anymore. I will simply blog elsewhere as WordPress has NEVER helped me via Support and always ignores my requests for assistance. This message is being forced into the Forums and I am being refused the opportunity to ask any support people at all. Only the application offered that option, but again I never got a response no matter how many times I asked or even when asking why I am being ignored.
    Sorry this ends up in public but WP is forcing this issue into public by refusing to allow me to ask Support personnel.

  • Hi @oregondissenter, I’m sorry to hear it.

    Free sites on our servers do only get public support, but I’m also struggling to understand how a site on our services would get a connection error in the app.

    One point to clarify: this is regarding your free WordPress.com site, rather than a copy of WordPress with another host, correct? If it’s your own copy of WordPress hosted elsewhere, there could be other connectivity issues to consider, so let us know.

    And, I understand you able to access your posts online at https://wordpress.com/posts — just not through the app?

    Are you willing to share the exact connection error you get? And lastly, do you have any apps on your computer that may be mistakenly blocking the app-to-WordPress connection, such as a firewall / security app?
