@thomasbaum572 Thanks for chiming in here. The site in question awesomeliesblog.wordpress.com is hosted here on WordPress.com, which is always updated to the latest version and handled by WordPress.com behind the scenes. @awesomeliesblog it looks like your thread may have fallen between the cracks so I’ve gone ahead and flagged it again for Staff attention.

I have noticed that another user has reported an apparently similar fault:

If you are not committed to the block editor (guttenberg wpress?) what about something like Classic Editor?
That may be worth a punt?
https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/ -
Thanks. I appreciate the help. I am on a free plan, which does not permit installation of plugins, but if I upgrade, I still potentially have two problems. First, I have to migrate content written in blocks to the Classic format, and I am not sure that is possible. Second, Classic block content no longer renders properly on my site, and I fear I will have the same problems with the Classic Editor. Do you have any thoughts on whether either problem can be avoided?
-
They should migrate with no issues, when blocks came out I tried it, did not like it so found the classic editor plug in. The few posts I made in the blocks seem to be fine once the plug in was activated.
I don’t use any blocks at all.
How much is the paid version and is it subscription so you can easily cancel it if it mucks up? -
This is something that I am listening for the first time at least.
Cant help you! I hope your problem get resolved by the authorities of this site. -
If you want to work with the Classic Editor, you don’t need a plugin as it is available for free. However even though the Classic Editor is still available, it is not recommended because a lot of modern themes aren’t compatible and compatible themes are fading out. You find all info at https://wordpress.com/support/editors/classic-editor-guide/
We advice to use the Classic Block – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/ – but you must know it is much more limited than using the Block Editor.

I have also had the same problem since the end of November. Forced either to change the block type to go back, or to change to html and return to the block visually. When access to editing is blocked, it seems that the group is highlighted and we can no longer access the details of the content to change it, we remain in selection of the group or block. When we are then on the block, all the editing elements disappear in the block characteristics.
It might be time to stop looking for solutions in users’ browsers and recognize that this is an issue resulting from an update, or new (often unnecessary) features that occurred in November.

I was also facing the same issue on this website, but later I installed the WP Rocket Plugin for Cache and did few settings in the setting dashboard. The problem was resolved, you can also try the WP Rocket Plugin.

Hi @awesomeliesblog –
I’m sorry for the delay since our last reply. That wasn’t intentional, and I appreciate your patience shown here as we work toward a resolution. After reviewing this thread, I understand that you’re facing an issue with the cursor and text not working with paragraph, quotation, and other text-based blocks. Is this correct?
You tried clearing the cache and checking these errors on multiple devices. Thank you for doing that and for providing those screenshots.Do you have any browser extensions enabled on those devices? Something could be running interference here. If it’s alright with you, my next step is to try and replicate this directly on your site through a draft post or page. Did you happen to notice if it is affecting both posts and pages or is it just one of those?
Take care! -
Thanks, @twweditor, for the suggestion to use the Classic Editor, and @staartmees, for highlighting the plug-in-free version. I am able to edit the posts if I switch to the Classic Editor, so I do have a workaround for now, at least. I have concerns, nonetheless, about the long-term viability of using the legacy editor, particularly in light of the compatibility problems that have been mentioned.
@staff-zinia, I appreciate the help. As I mentioned earlier, no browser extensions have been installed. The problem affects both posts and pages.

I am having the identical problem and have been for several weeks now as well (at least the last 3 or 4 posts, I think, so even back into November). I have also tried clearing my cache on Chrome (up to date), tried a Chrome incognito window and tried it on Edge and Firefox (both up to date). Same issue exactly.
I can generally get my cursor into a paragraph and then use the Edit as HTML function to edit the para and then switch back to Edit visually. Sometimes that even allows me to make an edit or two visually on that block.
I’m also having problems with Masonry graphic layouts and this has become unusable on the post I am currently editing. I was able to select the Masonry block and edit/add captions (captions are on) or move images around. Now, I can’t select the block but the only functionality I have is to Upload or go to Media Library–I can do nothing with each individual image.
I have spent more time trying to select things and find workarounds than I have actually creating or editing the content. I am at the point with my current post that I have to quit and find another solution for my blog. Crazy!

Browser extensions shouldn’t be the issue if the problem is happening on at least 3 different browsers. In my case, no extensions on at least one browser.
-
I have been having the same problems? WordPress editor – cursor disappears and unable to select / edit text?
-
Hello @staff-zinnia,
Is there any update on this problem? It seems that several people are experiencing it with no solution in sight.
Would sure love some help! I am using the personal version, paid, but no plugins possible.

@twopearces regarding the Masonry issue, we’ve found a bug will note your case. For now, can you transform to a Gallery block, make any changes needed, then transform back to Masonry?
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/customize-blocks/#change-the-block-typeI’ll see if I can get some eyes on this editor issue as well.
-
@supernovia Thanks for the reply. I wasn’t able to get cautions to carry back to masonry so had to stick with gallery for my last post.
