desperate for clarity on how to add follow blog button
-
I have been reading and trying for days now. Is it s plug in? Is it a widget? Does it have to be supported by the theme? Did wordpress lie when they said it would be on all themes? I am really new to this and so frustrated with all posts that speak in a language I don’t understand. Plug ins all ‘fail to install’. ‘Follow Blog’ widgets don’t show on ANY THEME when I try to ‘add a widget’ – can anyone speak in kindergarten language and help?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I suspect what you are doing is trying to use wordpress.ORG plug ins/widgets on a wordpress.COM site (a mistake I made when I started blogging). The way to add a ‘follow’ widget on WordPress.com is as follows:
*Go to WP admin (https://couragecocktails.wordpress.com/wp-admin/)
*Go to appearance
*Within appearance, go to widgets
*Drag the ‘follow blog’ widget into the location you wish (ie sidebar, footer, etc)
Hope this helps. Best, Matt -
Yes! It sounds so easy, but when I get to Appearance>Widgets>available widgets, there is no “follow blog”, The following are listed under “available widgets”: Archives, calendars, categories, custom menus, meta, pages, recent comments, recent posts, RSS, Search, tag cloud, text, and twenty fourteen ephemera. This happened with both themes that I tried: Twenty Fourteen and SuevaFree. I am staying on the wordpress.com website – nothing fancy for me! I am about ready to quit. Any advice would be appreciated!

The only other method I can think of is going to the customizer and trying to add them there. Apologies for my lack of suggestions.
Best, Matt
