How do you Detecting a theme of a wordpress.com blog?

I was wondering is there any website or when you view source it shows you the theme name and its version number? How do you go about doing this

    Additionally

If its a custom made theme, how do you go about tracking where is it in the wordpress.org shop,is it through a website or with some view source function?

  • Hi there,

Do you have a specific site in mind? If you can share the URL I’d be happy to take a look for you.

You should be able to see the theme on any WordPress.com site by clicking the WordPress.com action bar that appears bottom-right:

We don’t use version numbers for themes on WordPress.com, as all sites are always using the most recent version of the theme we have available.

If a theme we offer is available in the WordPress.org theme showcase, you can search for it at https://wordpress.org/themes, or from Appearance ->Themes ->Add New in the WP-Admin dashboard and install it from there.

However, not all our themes are available on WordPress.org. If you want to use a WordPress.com theme that’s not available there, you can download it directly from our theme showcase here on WordPress.com. At the bottom of each theme’s showcase page you’ll see a button to download the self-hosted version.

If its a custom made theme, how do you go about tracking where is it in the wordpress.org shop,is it through a website or with some view source function?

Do you mean a custom theme, or a third party theme?

Custom themes are typically commissioned by a site owner for their specific site, so you won’t find those in the WordPress.org theme directory. You’ll still be able to see what the theme’s name is by viewing the site’s source code in your browser, but it’s unlikely you’ll find that theme elsewhere. You use a custom theme if you want a theme that’s unique to your site, and that no one else can use.

If you mean a third party theme, i.e. a theme not offered on WordPress.com, but that’s being used on a site on our Pro or Business Plan, you can also see the theme name by using View Source in your browser. But it could be a theme the site owner downloaded somewhere other than WordPress.org/themes, or it could even be a premium theme they bought from another company. So the only way to find a specific theme in that case is to search Google for it, so you can find the website of the theme shop that made it, or the theme marketplace that sells it.

Hi @Kokkieh,I was wondering how to do that for someone else site,I am not a admin and just a viewer of the website.

    Like for example
    https://gowers.wordpress.com/

Is there a way I can do it(find out the theme) of the site?

But thanks for the detailed reply

  • There is a way to find out, sure! If you view the source code and search it for wp-content/themes you’ll see this one uses Kubrick.

Is that the site you want to emulate?
