Developing a new website & switching domains when done?

  We have our website hosted elsewhere at the moment, we want to develop a new one on WordPress with a different domain while our current page is still live, and then switch to our old domain once our new one is done – will this be possible? Should I map my domain?

  Sure, you can start by adding content to the WordPress.com site you have already created and continue using the free address (containing “.wordpress.com”) for as long as you need.

  Should I map my domain?

  There are two options for using an existing domain here:

  1. The domain can remain registered with your current provider and mapped.
  2. It can be transferred to WordPress.com (and renewed through us going forward).
