Developing a web site then moving it to a different host/platform

I work for Nortech Systems in Minneapolis. We had our current (very awful) site built in WordPress by a web development vendor, then moved to our secure hosting environment. I would actually like to build a whole new web site. Is it possible to develop/build a site online here then move it to a different platform/environment? While in development, I want to be able to have stakeholders view the site in draft format as a whole instead of page by page, which is all that WordPress allows as I work on our current site.

    Hi mbrinmn,

It sounds like you are currently using WordPress.org software but wish to build a site here on WordPress.com.

Is it possible to develop/build a site online here then move it to a different platform/environment?

It would be possible to create a site on WordPress.com, then export content and media to another platform at a later date.

You wouldn’t be able to transfer the site away from WordPress.com in it’s entirety — like when a site is moved from one host to another. For example, themes built specifically for WordPress.com aren’t compatible with other platforms.

Can you share more details about why you want to build a site here and then move it to a different platform or host?

I want to be able to have stakeholders view the site in draft format

On WordPress.com, it’s possible to mark a site private and invite others to view and contribute.

I hope this helps but please let me know if you have any more questions.
