Did not mean to renew WordPress Yearly subscription

How do I get my money back? I did not receive any form of notice that I had an upcoming withdrawal or transaction, nor did I opt in for recurring payments.

Hi there, I’ve tagged WordPress.com staff to help you with this issue. You’ll likely receive a response within a few hours from a staff member: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

Hope this gets resolved soon. :)

nor did I opt in for recurring payments

Just to clarify, recurring payments tends to be opt out, which in future, can be done by following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/faq-renewing-and-canceling/#auto-renew-off

Great, that still doesn’t change the fact that I do not have the funds in the account that was charged, nor have they been refunded.

At this point I’m going to end up having to shut everything down and move over to something like Wix Free.

Really would like to get this sorted out asap so I don’t have to start all over again.

Though I understand your frustration, please be patient as WordPress.com staff will respond soon and likely do their best to reverse the payment.

That being said, for future reference, a free plan is also offered on WordPress.com. :)

  • Hi @greenwillowstudios, thanks for getting in touch. We send renewal emails to the address on file prior to renewal.

I’ve tried to process the refund, but may have hit some trouble because you filed the charge as fraudulent. And on the other hand it may work anyway because the charge and chargeback status are both so recent.

If you haven’t already, please close the fraud investigation with your bank, and we’ll make sure to get you refunded properly here.

About the site, we can help you revert to a free site here if you’d like. It won’t have the same features as the business plan. Changes you’ve made since adding plugins and what not could be lost. Would you like us to go ahead and revert for you?

    Thank you for your help.

Is it possible to switch to some form of monthly plan?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, monthly payments are not offered on WordPress.com. All plan payments are billed annually or every two years and are paid in advance.

    I’m still a little confused…

I paid for my subscription in October of last year, on the 15th. Why was I not charged in October, instead of September?

Also I paid for the $48 plan – how do I get my domain name back?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok yeah, I just looked at my purchase receipt from October 15th, 2017 and it says my subscription expires October 15th, 2018. I was charged an entire month early. I would post the screen shot but I can’t figure out how to do that on mobile.

I feel like I should be given a refund for the $48 I just spent, and have my business account reinstated with an expiration date of October 18th, 2018 for the three days I’ve missed out on.

    Hi greenwillowstudios,

I checked your support history and our Happiness Engineers removed the Business plan after you said you no longer wanted to use it. We don’t offer the option to pay monthly so you purchased the Personal plan instead, which is currently active on greenwillowstudios.wordpress.com.

You disputed the Business plan payment which means PayPal issues a chargeback against us — this removed the plan and custom domain from the site. Would you like to me to restore greenwillowstudios.com and bundle it with the Personal plan so the two renew together?

I just looked at my purchase receipt from October 15th, 2017 and it says my subscription expires October 15th, 2018. I was charged an entire month early.

By default, all upgrades are set to auto renew 30 days before the expiry date. In this case, the Business plan was renewed but later refunded and there is a copy of the refund receipt in your Billing History:

    https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing

Refunds usually take 5-10 business days to appear on your statement, so you can expect to receive the money around that time.

Please let me know if you would like greenwillowstudios.com restored and I can take care of that for you.

I just want things to be the way they were a week ago before this happened. I can’t even link clients to http://www.greenwillowstudios.com because apparently I don’t own the domain anymore and I have dead html text all over my portfolio page since plugins are disabled.

I want the money I just spent last night refunded because I should still have a month left on my business plan.

I can’t understand how I would be downgraded when I still have a month left that I paid for, I feel like it’s relatively clear that was not my intent from the outset – it’s like context wasn’t taken into consideration.

In short – please refund me for any payments i’ve made since this mess began, and put me back on business plan, which i paid for, until October 18th of this year, 2018.

  • It was downgraded because the charge was reported as fraudulent. Think of it this way: if you reported that someone else was stealing your card to run their site, we’d shut the upgraded parts of their site down immediately.

I’ve refunded the $48 and restored your business plan, however it will expire in October, so you’ll want to get in touch with us before the 15th to let us know what you’d like to do going forward.

    You can do that here:

    Thank you.

How do I revert my website to September 14th before this happened, without having to pay for Jetpack?

  • Please start a live chat at https://wordpress.com/help/contact so someone can chat with you about exactly what you want restored and advise you on the available options. The public forums are not ideal to help you with this part of the process.
