Did wrong category give me few readers?
-
Yesterday I published a post about a book I´ve read. I used proper tags for the post, such as book review, and the out hors name, the title of the book and so on. But the category I chose was “Things I´ve read. The reason for my choice was simply because I wanted it to say so at my blog, when people see my categories. I did not think about search engines. It turned out that I never have so few readers ever before.
Is that because of a bad choice of category? Should I change the category to “Book Review” or something like that?

A few ideas here. First off, it’s unlikely to be the category that’s the problem, more likely that your blog isn’t as easy to navigate as it could be. You’ve got your about page as the landing page (where people go to first) and so they have to look for your blog, and then you’ve got your blog set up to only show one page at a time. It would be better for your to show more posts at a time (it doesn’t have to be many).
It would also help if you had an archive so that people could more easily find past posts.
I know your question is just about this one post, but readers do like to get a more ‘whole’ feel for a blog and its author/s when they first visit, from the blog itself rather than having to keep visiting the separate pages.
The other thing is, posts don’t necessarily appear in search engines straight away.
I’ve a newbie blogger’s guide I wrote, here, if you’re interested.

Highly unlikely. Search engines pay less attention to tags and categories than they used to and will most times pull their own keywords and such out of the post when they index it.
Also, tags and categories are treated the same by search engines so if you also have good tags, then you have no worries.
Sometimes there are slow days, or perhaps even several slow days.

Thanks for all the advice and your great answers,
I have done some changes in my blog now. The blog is actually the first you see when you visit it. Thanks :-) Val, I will have a look at your guide, it will probably help a lot. I started to blog just a few months ago.Maggie

Yes, that’s probably better, Maggie. You might need to also remove the ‘blog’ page – when clicking on the tab, it shows nothing now.
Take some time to experiment with things. There’s no rush.
Oh, and something also to consider is that post that are published at the weekend or just before tend to get fewer views as people are often doing things with their families instead.

But Val,
If I remove that blog page, how will people know how to find my blog page then? Not everybody know to klick the title of my blog, do they? Is there any way to make it possible to klick that Blog page and end up at the blog??? To do the blog as its own page…Maggie
