Difference between a website and a blog

  I’ve been very encouraged by the responses to what I thought was a rather stupid question from me about the technical difference between a website and a blog. Following the links and helpful advice I’ve been given in the forum I checked out ‘Using WordPress to create a website.’
  I couldn’t help thinking it would be very helpful if right at the start of that page, WordPress did give a detailed explanation of the difference between the two – and when you might want/need one or the other. But actually they just seem to use the two concepts interchangeably, suggesting there really is no difference.
