Difference between domain and server
-
Hello,
I
m by no means a tech person, so Id appreciate a full answer to enlight me (imagine explaining this to 5y old).I paid to wordpress $18 for my domain. Do I need to server like bluehost?
All my trouble started when I tried to install wordpress on my laptop and words like “Access to your web server (via shell or FTP)” and ” FTP Client” showed up. I`m not sure who is my web server. If I paid for domain, does it means i already have a web server?
Truly appreciate any helpful answer!!

Greetings,
Yes, you do have a web server.
Actually, you have a small part of the WordPress.com server, shared by millions. The WordPress people keep the server up to date and secure — all you have to do is publish your content and make your site cool! You will not need to install WordPress on your laptop — everything you do can be done through a web browser, like Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
When you visit http://jumpthelights.com, you should see “My Sites” in the upper left corner. From there, you can control your site from the areas labeled “Publish,” “Look and Feel,” and “Configuration.”
Please let me know if you are able to see the “My Sites” link, and if you need more help. We’ll get you going!
