Difference between edublog and a normal WordPress blog?

  I am a school teacher, and I want to set up a blog to communicate with my classes.
  I am trying to work out the difference between an ‘edublog’ WordPress blog and a normal WordPress blog. The normal one seems to be more customizable? Why would an edublog be better for teachers?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi. I took a quick peek at EduBlogs.org and already notice a MAJOR difference: according to their website, it has no ads, which is not the case of WordPress.com (unless you want to pay for a No Ads upgrade).

  Been a while since I looked at Edublog but I think they are also set up so a teacher can watch over many student blogs easier –
