  Hello,

  When purchasing WordPress.com plan you will be offered to Register a domain with the plan. The domain would be registered with the WordPress.com and you will have to pay one provider (WordPress.com) for renewal of both.

  If you have a domain registered elsewhere and want to use it with WordPress.com you will need to Map it to WordPress.com.
  Here is how:

  So it depends on which option is more convenient or cost effective for you. Either way, your domain will show your WordPress.com site.
