Difference between pages and posts on google

Hi! I have split my blog into two parts, one part where I post tunes regularly, and one part where I enter weekly detailed features. In the tunes part I just use posts, however for the other part of my blog I use pages as I wish them to be static- since I am posting about the history of the music I do not wish what I write to be time-specific.
My question is, do my pages (under the banner ‘History of Jamaican Music’) still appear in google? Or do only posts become find-able in google search.

Posts and Pages are not the same at all. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ Pages which are for static content that rarely changes, sit outside the blog structure, do not automatically update, and do not have RSS Feeds. Both Posts and Pages are discoverable in Google search.
Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update.Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags too will update automatically update with posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

Thanks very much for the help, I am a little bit confused about what you mean in the second part of your answer however. (sorry I am new to wordpress and still struggle slightly)
Are you basically suggesting that, in terms of how successful it would be on google, rather than using pages for my ‘history’ tab, I use posts and simply categorise them using custom menus?

YES! Use posts and categories.
Create a custom menu and include the categories pages in it. -
