I don’t understand the context you mean. RSS is the overall process and RSS subscribe is just a way of labelling it.
Can you tell us what exactly you mean?

I am reacting to the fact that when I click onto ”Widgets“ in my blog, I see a choice of putting RSS and/or RSS SUBSCRIBE in my sidebar. I figure that if they are both the same thing, why give two names for it? Sorry for this, but I have a lot to learn still. :-) :-)

Oh, I see what you mean. Well, I see two choices called RSS and RSS links in my dashboard.
RSS links is basically what you have in the top right on your blog. It’s for other people so that they have easy links to subscribe to your blog.
RSS basically allows you to put the RSS feed of another blog or site in your sidebar. So for example another blog you have or the weather in your area or whichever RSS feed you want. If you have a look at my blog it has my other blog ‘cat on tumblr’ in the sidebar.
Hope that helps. :)
