difference between self hosting and wordpress premium
-
HI, I blog at violetcrush.wordpress.com
I just bought a domain and hosting from bluehost because I want to be able to have my own url (booksatvioletcrush.com)
I am confused with the wordpress premium which also offers domain name right? So what is the difference? I want to be able to do the following without any extra cost (other than the one you pay in the beginning).
1. have my own name – booksatvioletcrush.com
2. to be able to customize themes or use themes provided for wordpress by third parties.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

1) You could have just bought the $13 a year Domain Mapping upgrade and used your custom domain on a WordPress.com blog instead, if all you really wanted was to use a custom domain. You do not need to pay Bluehost for hosting at all. To use a custom domain on a WP.com blog you need to renew the domain with your registrar every year and pay $13 for the domain mapping.
2) To customize themes you’d need the Custom Design upgrade, which is included in several bundles or is $30 a year on its own. There is no upgrade you can buy here that allows you to add external themes.

Thank you! So I understand that I can do everything else without bluehost except using external themes? I can use external themes if I go with bluehost right?
