Differences between WP solutions

    Hi – complete newbie here.

Can someone help me out with what would be the major differences between the $500/mo VIP WordPress option and $199/yr option?

Are both hosted by WordPress or would I need to use a 3rd party for the $500/mo option?

Potentially looking to build a site for someone and trying to help them chose an option where they (and I) don’t have to host or maintain the software (or security) themselves.

Thanks so much for any guidance!

    First off, there’s no $199/yr option. It’s either $99/yr or $299/yr

Next is the Enterprise option at $500/mo which allows full customization and user initiated advertising:

All are hosted on this platform.

The basic Value Bundle is outlined here:

I haven’t seen too much yet on the $299/yr Business Bundle other than what’s listed in the Store:

All the benefits of our Pro service, plus the ability to:

Try any one of our 200+ themes and change as often as you like, no extra charge.
Upload all the video and audio files you want with unlimited storage.
Talk to a WordPress.com specialist in real time with live chat support.
Build connections with custom contact forms that help you gather critical data about your customers.

    Hi, thanks for your response.

    1) I got the $199/yr figure from here: http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/

Not sure what the $299/yr option is. The link you gave: http://en.support.wordpress.com/bundles/
goes to a page describing a $99/yr bundle.

The $199/yr option links to here: http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/wordpress-business/
which does explain some features but I would like to know exactly how that package differs from what you get from
    http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/wordpress-business/

    2) I am trying to recommend WP to someone to use as a replacement for hosting within their institution (they don’t get along with their IT and don’t have the bandwidth to futz with installing etc themselves on an independent box or hosting service.) So what I’m trying to determine is the cheapest way that they can kinda just have a hosted solution that is secure enough that IT won’t hassel them for leaving and headache free from an admin standpoint. Not sure if it’s better to have the “Biz” bundle or the lowest of the VIP options.

Is there ANY way to get contact with a WP rep to ask this relatively simple question?

    thanks!

I still see $299/yr in both of your links:

    Business
    Great for businesses
    $299 per year

As noted above, the biggest difference in the higher package is the advertising and customization abilities, but they’ll need somebody that’s techy enough to handle it.

I saw a bit where the pricing references is messed up with different numbers on different pages

What type of a blog are you trying to set up? Is it commercial? Education or school related, personal? – it might be that you don’t need the fancy packages.

    It’s for an educational institution.
