Differences in terms between phpBB and WordPress
-
I am trying to set up a classic bulletin board style forums. The forums were in phpBB when I took the site over, but my concierge suggested WordPress. I installed bbPress, but I still cannot understand the terminology that WordPress uses.
I think a lot of the problem is that the blogging and other non-forum features are in the way. I am not interested in those. I do not need to set up my site. I just want to replace the phpBB forums.
There should be the main board index, followed by the individual forums, then the sub-forums/chambers, those would contain the topics which contain the posts. How does WordPress/bbPress do that?

No ability to edit?
First line in second paragraph should read:
. . . non-forum features of the administration dashboard are in the way.

“Classic bulletin board style forums” are not really an option using WordPress.
This forum is for the support of WordPress.COM users. We don’t do BBPress support at all, sorry.

Sorry, if you are using bbPress, then that site is self-hosted and you need to head over to the WordPress.org forums as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.
These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.
If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document.
