Different backgrounds / headers for different categories?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, is it possible to display different backgrounds and headers within the same site? I would like to distinguish between my categories, as i intend to close my other site Unique Vintage Chic soon and just have the one blog.

Also can you advise which is the closest premium theme visually to my current theme Triton Lite. The most important thing for me is that my feature images are displayed as they are without being cut off to fit a certain size grid on the home page. Triton Lite is great for that, but there may be something even better that would suit my needs to basically have 2 different sites in one blog.

One more query, when I close Unique Vintage Chic, can I transfer all the upgrades I’ve paid for to Unique So Chic instead? including the premium theme ‘Portfolio’?
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

is it possible to display different backgrounds and headers within the same site?

There aren’t built-in options to do this, but you can use Custom CSS (part of your Custom Design upgrade) to make additional changes to your theme’s design.

If you have CSS questions, most of our CSS support is done in our CSS Customization forum here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization

You can post in that forum, and the expert staff and volunteers there can help guide you to a solution. It helps to post links to the posts or pages you want to change, and include as many details as possible about how you’d like to change them.

If you’re interested in hiring a consultant to make those changes for you, you may want to consider getting a quote from Tweaky: Request Theme Customization

Also can you advise which is the closest premium theme visually to my current theme Triton Lite.

The first theme that comes to mind is Publisher, which support featured images of different sizes. You can see a live demo here: http://publisherdemo.wordpress.com/

You can also look through all of our premium themes that support featured images here:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/featured-images/?sort=premium

One more query, when I close Unique Vintage Chic, can I transfer all the upgrades I’ve paid for to Unique So Chic instead? including the premium theme ‘Portfolio’?

You’re welcome to transfer all of your upgrades to another blog by going to Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard. You can use the “Transfer to another site” link next to each upgrade to transfer it. We have more about that here: My Upgrades: Transferring Upgrades

Please let me know if I can provide any further help with this. :)

Thank you for your advice, I’m now asking at the forum for CSS.

Re Publisher theme, what advantages would that theme provide over Triton Lite?

    Thanks

    Hi there,

You can read a description of the Publisher theme here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/publisher/

One difference between Publisher and Triton Lite is that Publisher is responsive, meaning that it adapts automatically to different screen sizes for mobile devices like tablets and phones. But there are other features you can read about at the link above, to get a sense of what unique features Publisher has to offer.

Premium themes also include theme support directly from the theme author. If you purchase the Publisher theme, you’ll be able to post questions and get help in the Publisher theme support forum here:

    http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/publisher

If you’re interested, you can preview the Publisher theme on your own site, to get a first-hand look at how it would look there. To do that, you can go to Appearance > Themes in your dashboard, search for Publisher, and then click the Preview button.

I hope this helps! :) If you’re looking for a new theme, I recommend browsing, reading about, and previewing different themes to get a sense of what they have to offer. Each theme at WordPress.com is a little bit different, so there’s quite a bit to choose from.
