Different captions for same image?

Does anyone know if it is possible put several different captions on the same media file (an image in this case)?

I’ve tried doing this, but the caption changes globally. I’d rather not upload the same image to my media folder more than once due to space restrictions, but I can’t seem to find any other way of using the same image more than once with different captions for each use.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You need to make different file versions ie. different file names for each one.

That basically means copying the file (or uploading it as many times as i want different captions), and having it use up the memory allotment each time it’s uploaded or copied, right?

Is there a way to make different file-name versions without having to upload the image under a different name again to avoid the memory issue?

I’m really trying to avoid uploading the same image (even with a different file name) more than once. It’s extremely wasteful of memory space, space that is used up all too quickly.

I’ve found that a different caption can be added to an image on every static page it’s placed on. If a previous caption comes along for the ride when you add the image to another page, just delete that caption and write in what you want. (I don’t add a caption when I initially upload an image.) Check http://baskcabinetry.com/ to see for yourself (incomplete site, though).

I have not entered any blog posts as yet, so cannot say how that will effect captioning, but I don’t anticipate that it would differ, but I shall see…

    a) No, you don’t have to upload the same image again. As baskcabinetry said, if you re-insert an image you have already inserted, you can freely change its caption: this won’t affect the previously inserted version.
    b) WP offers you 3GB of free space for uploading files. Do you know how many thousands of images this allows you to upload before you run out of space? As an example, the media library of my test blog has 1080 images and other files at the moment; used space: 8%. If you don’t want to waste space, you shouldn’t worry about re-uploading a few images, you should stop uploading 3000px wide images. Uploading appropriately downsized versions of your images would also give you better quality. Before explaining this, I need to know something: the images you have inserted link to a larger view of the file when clicked; is this intentional or not?
(If you’re not familiar with the available options, see this post of mine:
