Different folders or albums to classify my pictures in WP server?
-
Hello, I am looking for a way to organize photo albums in my uploaded pictures.
I have about 200 images for about 20 pages. I would like to keep the images well classified in photo albums in WP server (not in a gallery). As I see, in WP server, all 200 images would go to the same ‘album’ or folder, not nice at all when trying to find them.
The closest I have found is to mark pictures as attached to a page, but sure Im not the only one looking for a better media library.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid you can’t organize this way on WP.com. The best you can do is use nomenclature well: I name my images with MainSubjectMinorIdentifier, eg CthulhuToes. Because I have a lot of images of Cthulhu.

Thanks for the answer raincoaster. Is it official, or is your experience? because I believe it is a basic feature all of us require…
Any official answer form WordPress?

Raincoaster has been here longer than most staffers and is recognized as a WordPress authority, she gave you the correct answer.

Hi, Thanks for double checking, I also use the naming to classify the pictures, then I use the filter to find them, but I was surprised by not finding a “create folder” button in the media library, I can live without it anyway.
Sure many have already asked for this feature, but I didn´t find any forum topic doing so, I believe you guys, there is no such feature, but what is WP’s support answer??

Their policy is not to answer questions like that, actually. And there are several threads about this. I know I answered one just a few days ago.

To add “folders” management would require rewriting a large section of core code and changing many things at WordPress.COM.
If you have a WordPress.ORG install you can manage folders, BUT none of the managed folders will appear in your media library nor can you mange the images in the nonstandard folder system.
While keeping track of the images in folders on the server can be done with a .ORG install it is all done with FTP access and not inside the WordPress program

Thanks for the info auxclass, but sorry, but I am still waiting for a WP official answer.
I am not demanding such feature, despite is could be easily deployed and WP system seems to be very user friendly, I am asking for WPs answer.

I noticed WP has a strange forum system. through forums, I have been told to don’t ask too much, to don’t post 2 comments in a row, WP has even deleted comments, and I have found several forums unsolved or closed when unsolved, and staff members rely on member’s backup. This is WP, it should be open to improvements!

Just chiming in quickly to say that raincoaster and auxclass are correct. Also, while we are working to add more support staff here at WordPress.com, there is also a long tradition of volunteer support which is one really cool part of the WordPress.com community.
I’ve made a note of your folders suggestion. Thank you for the feedback.
