different fonts showing up when open website

Hello, In the process of changing fonts on my blog/website australart.com, I had tried several ones, and had saved them (probably shouldn’t have…). Now I have made up my mind on final font and saved that choice, but when I open the website page, instead of showing immediately the headings text, it flicks through the 3 different fonts I tried in sequence before stabilising on the final one! looks terribly unprofessional… I have cleared cache & cookies, and it’s still doing it. It does it both on my laptop and my smartphone. Reading the help section I understand this might be corrected with CCS… BUT I am totally new to that (just upgraded to Premium) – Is there anyone who knows what I’m talking about and could help? that probably would save me zillions of hours of aggravation :) many thanks. Blandine

Hi, I’m not seeing any font switches when I view your site and click around. With Custom Fonts, we did make a decision to allow the original fonts to load if the custom fonts were slow to load for whatever reason so that the visitors would not be staring at a blank page while waiting for the fonts to load. This is something we are aware of and are working on.

I did get the original font to show briefly on one page load, but only that one time.

Are you still seeing several fonts flashing before things settle down?

Hi, thank you for your quick reply. I understand what you explained. The problem started on the “Sobe” theme, and I thought it occured because I had tried & saved different fonts. So I moved to the “Nucleare” them, which is operating now. When I set up that last theme and customised it, I made sure I made only one change & save from the original font to the customised one. I just checked what happens when I open my website, both from Mozilla and Chrome, and it still does what you are describing: shows the original font for a couple of seconds before going to the custom one… :( very disappointing…

It is one of the issues with custom web-based fonts, and not only here, but everywhere. Some decide to delay page loading until the fonts are loaded, but if font servers are busy or the internet is congested in an area, it can mean long delays on page loading, and with the short attention span of web surfers, that could mean they click away. I know I’ve done that myself when a page takes more than a few seconds to load. As of right now what we have is the best solution we can come up with since much of this is out of our control.
