different gravitar for each blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I have two websites/blogs hosted on WordPress. I created them both from the same account. Now I wish to post to each with a different gravitar is that possible? Or do I have to make two accounts. I’ve been able to add other email addresses and associate photos with those email addresses, but all posts come from the primary.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You’ll have to have create a second account to be able to post as two separate people, yes. After creating a second account you can either:

    1) Add the second account as a user on the blog where you want it. When creating a post on a blog with more than one user you can select the author to appear for that post. This has the advantage of allowing you to post on both blogs from within the same account, i.e. without logging into the other one. Note you’ll still only be able to comment as the account you’re logged in under.

    2) Transfer one blog to the other account. This is the simpler option: to post/comment on one blog you need to be logged in as one user, to post/comment on the other you need to logged in as the other user.

Thank you so much. So now I’ve made another account but I cannot map operability.net to this account because first I have to unmap it from my other account. That’s where I’m now stuck. Fortunately I haven’t started the blog so I don’t have anything to lose but the domain was purchased via the first account so… this is not the same as transferring the domain registrar… its just unmapping… but where?

  • operability.net is not mapped to an account, but to a .wordpress.com address. If you transfer that wordpress.com blog over to the new username account the domain mapping should go over with it. (If you bought your domain itself from WordPress.com (i.e. not merely mapping), let me know before doing anything as I don’t know if that will transfer automatically.)

Log back in under the first account and go to My Blogs in the dashboard. Find the blog you want to have under the second account and select the transfer option. Note that this cannot be reversed, so make sure you read all warnings and instructions carefully: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-wordpress-com-user-or-account

Once this is done the second account will own that blog along with the mapping upgrade.

OK thanks. Yes I bought it from WordPress. I will go read about it. Thanks for the pointers.

  • Let me rather tag this for staff so we can be sure you get the right advice. Please be patient while waiting for their response.

You can transfer the blog itself to another user by following the instructions kokkieh linked. You can transfer the upgrade to another user in your Store > My Upgrades tab under the domain mapping upgrade.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks I have now read the instructions. So the new account own the original blog along with its mapping upgrade. That would be OK. But what if I wanted to actually transfer the mapping upgrade so that visitor to operability.net would see a totally new blog, is that possible? Because the warnings are that if I delete a blog… well I can’t do that if it has an upgrade because that removes my access to its domain. Not that I particularly want to delete this blog because it hasn’t really started yet but… I do have an annoying problem that its gravatar is displaying as the original creator. Maybe that will change if I transfer it to another user?

OK what I want to do is transfer the domain operability.net to the user jchan1alpha. What I’m worried about is losing or damaging the harlowpenguins.wordpress.com blog. That must remain intact and where it is, as there’s a lot riding on it. But harlowpenguins seems to be the only option in the dropdown box for “Transfer Product.” In fact operability.net is not mapped to harlowpenguins but to “operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com” and it is THAT which I want to change so it maps to “jchan1alpha.wordpress.com”. Also not sure whether I have to transfer the premium upgrade AND the domain.

    Hi jackiedana
I’m now thinking that your suggestion isn’t going to work. What you are describing only determines whether operability.net displays either of the two wordpress blogs already belonging to jhchan117. That is the reason why the only other option is harlowpenguins.

Whereas what I want to do is display a blog belonging to jchan1alpha at operability.net. In other words, I want to transfer the ownership of the operability.net domain to another wordpress member, albeit myself. So that member (gravatar and email) is leading the blog.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, let me see if I fully understand.

You would like the user jchan1alpha to be the owner of operability.net, which you would like to map to jchan1alpha.wordpress.com? Meanwhile, you don’t want anything to happen to harlowpenguins.wordpress.com?

If this is correct, I can make this happen for you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, that is correct. I need to be very careful I don’t lose harlowpenguins as a published blog. Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

I believe I’ve done everything you requested. Please let me know if I’ve missed anything or if you run into any further trouble with this.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks very much. As far as I can see, we’re almost there, but not quite. I now see the domain belongs to jchan1alpha. I have been to My Upgrades and pointed it at jchan1alpha.wordpress.com however it still continues to display the blog from operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com with the gravatar I am trying to remove. I’m not sure whether this is because it takes time to transfer. I have flushed the cache in my browser and will check back in a few hours.
Otherwise, I’d be happy for you to completely delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com so that I have an unmapped domain and can start again.

    Hi there,

I went ahead and moved the domain operability.net to the blog jchan1alpha.wordpress.com as you had requested. You should now see jchan1alpha.wordpress.com when you load the domain operability.net.

I did not transfer the Premium bundle. If you would like to do that, please reply back from the current owner of the Premium bundle to confirm, and I will move that Premium bundle to jchan1alpha.wordpress.com as well!

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks. I now see the jchan1alpha.wordpress.com blog when I go to operability.net which is the main objective. However in the dashboard My Blogs it still seems mapped to operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com.

The final thing I’d like to do is permanently delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com; but even from My Sites in my account it still maps there to operability.net so I don’t want to risk deleting.

Yes please you may as well transfer the Premium bundle to jchan1alpha. Actually I thought we had already achieved that, it looks like it. To me its all the same because both accounts are me and I pay for it wherever but it makes sense for it to belong to the member who will use it.

  • Unknown's avatar

Actually something is wrong. The two blogs are still linked in some way. If I click on a link in operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com it takes me to a page in jchan1alpha.wordpress.com

The only way to resolve this is to permanently delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

The blogs jchan1alpha.wordpress.com and operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com are not linked in any way (not even with the domain). They’re two completely different sites. You might be referring to the site title, which appears at the top of operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com/ and reads “OPERABILITY NET”. This has nothing to do with the domain. If you would like, you can be sure by changing the site title for operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com here:

    https://operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php

I went ahead and moved the Premium bundle from operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com to jchan1alpha.wordpress.com so we should be good to go there.

You are safe to delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com from the page below:

    https://operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php?page=delete-blog

This will not affect your domain operability.net or your site jchan1alpha.wordpress.com.

Please let me know if you need anything else!

  • Unknown's avatar

Can you please permanently delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com for me.

I seem to be unable to do this. Several things suggest to me that these sites while created and existing as separate entities now have some sort of link. e.g.

I log in as jchan1alpha and try and delete operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com via the dashboard, when I respond to the email – which was sent to (email visible only to moderators and staff) – it fails to delete because it says I am logged in as jhchan117

If I am actually at the blog page operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com and I follow the links on it, it takes me to jchan1alpha.wordpress.com. I can see these are two different sites because the gravatar is different.

The server is in some way confused because operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com once belonged to jhchan117 and has since been transferred to jchan1alpha

The only solution is for operabilitydotnet.wordpress.com to be permanently deleted… but I am unable to do this.

Its OK. I seem to have now managed to delete the blog by cutting and pasting the delete URL into the browser, rather than clicking on it.
