Different header photo on each page

I’m just starting to design and family travel blog. I’m using the free “Book light” theme. Can I use a different header photo on each page? It seems that the main header photo from the home page comes up on each page and I can’t change it.

Also, can I change the font style/size/spacing of the title on the header photo?

I’m assuming that because this is a free theme and I’m not paying to upgrade customization at this time, that my versatility may be limited.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Yes, you can use a different header photo on each page. Just set a different Featured Image on each page.

To be able to change the font style/size/spacing of the title on the header photo you will have to purchase Custom Design upgrade though.

Thank you! I was able to select a featured image but not given the chance to crop it. Can it be cropped the way that the title image can be cropped on home page? Also, can I change the title words on each featured image, or does it have to have the original title on each featured image?

  • That’s correct, there is no chance to crop it while setting the header image. So you will have to crop it while adding the images to Media Library.

    The theme showcase page says:

Custom Header works best with an image at least 1440px wide and 500px tall.

So you know what sizes to crop before uploading the header images. :-)

Thanks. can I change the title words on each featured image, or does it have to have the original title on each featured image?

  • You can change the title words on each image i.e. the text is part of the image. There is no separate placeholder for text.

Please check this awesome post titled Create an Awesome (Free) Header in Ten Minutes. It has some useful tips.

So, in order to have different text on each featured image at the top of each page, I’d need to create the image with text in picmonkey, upload to wordpress, and keep the header text blank in wordpress. Or is there a way to do it in wordpress?

    Thanks again

    That’s correct.

…and keep the header text blank in wordpress.

Header text is the Site Title which you can change from General Settings. In your case it is Five On The Fly. It is a good idea not to make it blank. This has no relation to the text you print on the featured image.

In my test post here, you will notice Chait’s Test WordPress is my header text / site title. The mountain and snow image you see is the featured image. I could have printed text on it using PicMonkey, but I did not.

Hope it is clear now. Feel free to ask if you have more questions :-)

Hello again. I mistakenly directed you to the wrong site initially. The blog I’m working with is Far Away Five, not Five On The Fly.
I like the Booklight look and simplicity, but I’d like a smaller font in some places. Can I adjust the size of the font with the $30 custom design upgrade? Can I upload video right to the site with the $30 upgrade or do I need the $100 upgrade for that?

    Hello,
Thanks for your support. This is my first blog. I’m working on it from Bali where wifi is slow.

I just signed up for the free trial of premium upgrade for farawayfive.wordpress. I don’t need the premium for my other site 809fitzwaterphilly. When do i need to cancel so that I’m not charged the $100 if I decide not to keep the upgrade? 48 hours or 30 days? I’m not sure what a “bundle” is.

Questions about what premium offers as I didn’t see a thorough list of options:
    1. Can I change the color of the font on each header image? I do see how I can change the font and font size, but not color. If I change color on one header, it changes it on all headers.

    2. Can I embed video/audio into the site with premium?

    3. What other general changes can I make to the sites appearance with premium besides font style, font size and color/background options?

    4. Can I get real-time/quick response tech support with premium?

    Thank you, again!

  • 1. When you sign up for a trial by clicking on Try Now, you will get two week free trial. So after two weeks the upgrade will be cancelled automatically unless you decide to pay to continue using upgrades.

    2. Yes, Premium plan includes VideoPress which lets you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog.

But you don’t need VideoPress to embed videos from many video services. Please check Videos support doc.

    3. Please check Plans page to learn what upgrades are included in the Premium bundle.

    4. Yes, users who have paid upgrades on their accounts are eligible for direct email support from Happiness Engineers.

  • Update to my point# 1 above regarding trial.

    From this thread:

You can try any participating upgrade for a 14-day trial period, at no charge.

You will be asked to provide payment information when starting the trial, but you will not be charged until the 14-day trial period is up. If you cancel before the period is up, you will not be charged at all.

We will send you an email reminder one day before you will be charged.

You can cancel trial upgrades under Store → My Upgrades in your dashboard at any time.

    Thank you for your answers!
I’m still having a hard time with header photos. Picmonkey is great, and it worked best for the blog header which allows me to crop the actual photo and view what it will look like before it’s applied to the page. The problem with other pages, is that I choose a photo that I’ve made on picmonkey or not, and then no matter how I crop it, it zooms in and repositions it in a way that I can’t seem to control. Do you have any suggestions for this?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello. I’ve switched to a theme that gives me more control over my header photos.

    Additional questions:
    1. Can I embed video directly from my computer during the free trial period of premium upgrade, or do I need to purchase the upgrade in order to do that?

    2. Is there a way to insert a link or tag in a page that will take the reader to a specific spot on another page, not just to the top of the page?

    Thank you!
    Melissa

  • 1. Yes, you can upload videos during your trial period. I am not sure what happens to the uploaded videos if you cancel the upgrade before the trial ends.

    2. Did you try Page Jumps?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.
2 questions regarding my wordpress site, farawayfive.

    1. Page Jumping. I read the instructions on this support page:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/page-jumps/

Jumping to an Anchor on Another Page or PostYou can add a link to a heading on another page or post as well. Just use the following HTML link syntax, being sure to add a link to your destination page or post, along with a hash character (#) and the text of a heading on that page, using dashes to fill any spaces between words in the heading, like this:

    Click me

I tried inserting the above syntax into the text on the edit page. I also tried leaving the text alone and only inserting #title-of-heading after the link to the destination page. I was unsuccessful.

    2. Video. I uploaded several short videos to my site that were 960×540. When I try to play them when I'm viewing the site, it takes a very long time for the video to load. I'm in a place where wifi isn't great, so I'm not sure if the problem is on my end, or if other people will also have trouble viewing.

Also, re: video, can I make the video viewing frame smaller in my site? When I insert it in edit, I don't see an option for how to size it on the page, the way I can with photos. It comes up very big on the page.

    Thanks for your help.
