Different Images for Featured Content

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello there,

this is Juan, I’m very new in WP and I’m creating a wedding webpage with Gateway theme. My issue is that the image that appear in the featured content in the Home section appears as well in the page where it’s set and I want them to be different as it looks like in the demo (https://gatewaydemo.wordpress.com/). There, the first home featured image (“Soaking up the sun”) is different from the image that you see when you click on it. So there are two different images: one for the featured content home page section and the other for the page itself. Can you help me with this please?

    Thanks in advance,

    J

  • Hello Juan,

You can set a featured image that’s different from the ones appearing on the posts/pages. You can add as many images as you want on any post/page, as long as they’re first added on your Media Library. Then, you can choose to set a featured image, even if the image you choose doesn’t appear on the body of the post/page.

The image you see on the “Soaking up the sun” post is been added in the same space where you add the text, on the post editor. The image you see on the home page, instead, is a featured image added through the feature image box (right area of the post editor).

Let me know if that has clarified your doubts. Happy to provide you with more info if you need it! Cheers :)

Thanks stefaniamattana for your support. I get your point but I’m still not able to do it. In this case, the image I set in the page as a Featured Image automatically appears on the page, although it isn’t in the visual editor when you are editing the page. I think it’d be easier if I can provide you some screenshots of the issue. Do you think you can share an email?

    Really appreciate your help! Best,

    J

  • Hey Juan!

The featured image appears also on the body of the pages because it’s a feat image related to a page.

In The Gateway theme, featured images appear also within the body copy of the page itself, whilst on blog posts they behave differently – they don’t re-appear on the body copy. That is why on The Gateway examples the feat. images don’t re-appear inside the content, because the examples are blog post.

There are two solutions to get rid of your featured images on your page:

    – turn the page into a blog post: this way, the featured image will appear on your homepage, but it won’t on the content post page.
    – Add a CSS customised code (we can provide) that tells all the pages’ featured images to not re-appear on the body copy of the pages.

Since all the content you’ve created are pages, but so far only the Ubicación page needs such an effort, I’d oriented to suggest you to create a blog post with the same content and unpublish the page, so to use the blog post instead of the page. However, that would change the nature of the page itself, if you see what I mean, as the ubication information is part of a “page” kind of info.

However, if the content appearing on your homepage don’t need other featured images, you may want to experiment how it goes by turning the Ubicación page into a blog post, and see how it looks. If it doesn’t look good, you can always delete the blog post and re-publish the page.

I hope that is all clear. Please let me know if you have any doubts or questions. Also, if you need any help to accomplish any of the solution I posted, I’ll be more the welcome to guide you into them. :)
    Have a great Sunday meanwhile!

  • mongejj – are you all set with stefmattana’s help?

Hi @kathrynwp and @stefmattana and many thanks for your interest and support here! Since CSS is a premium feature, we decided to organize the content of the page taking into account that the featured image also appears first in the page site. We just adapted the text with this in mind.
    Best!

  • @mongejj You’re welcome! Glad to hear you’re managing that :)

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you out with. Thanks and have a good day!
