Different Post Author Name On Different Blogs, Same Account?
-
On a second blog, I plan to add to my existing WordPress account, I would like the author name by my posts different than that on my primary blog.
The only way I can think of to accomplish this is to create a separate user account for myself on my own blog.
Would there be a problem doing this? Is there a better way to accomplish the same thing?

Hi there – Yes, you’d have to create a separate user account for the new blog in that case. Log out entirely from your current account and then go here and create a second account and blog:

Glad you asked this I have the same issue – I have a blog of my own and then post on a shared blog. I’d like my name to appear differently on the shared blog. If I sign up for a second account how do I get back onto the shared blog? Thanks!

itsybitsymom, the second completely separate WordPress account must have a different username and email address. You would have to log out of one account and log into the other.
My original question was really why cannot I create a user account, as an author or editor, on my second blog under my existing WordPress account.
Since replying to eurello, above, I have started wondering about that again. I see no technical reason why what I proposed would not work and, having reread the WordPress Terms of Service, I do not see a conflict there. I am not trying to deceive anybody about who I am, even my real identity; it is a matter of sensibilities and different personas on different blogs.
At this point, I am stewing about whether I should just live with the limitation of using the same name on both blogs or creating a whole separate WordPress account. The solution may be as bad as the problem!

efmiddleton3 – thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I am looking for too. I am an author on a blog for where I work and I want my real name there as author, not my WPblog name – but on my other blog I want to be seen as itsybitsymom because it is for a different audience. If you figure it out PLEASE share with me! Thanks!

itsybitsymom, if I my initial post was clear and eurello understood what I was contemplating doing, there must be a technical problem or violation of WordPress Terms of Service of which I am not aware.
If that is correct, we only have the choice of using the same name on all blogs or creating and managing two unassociated WordPress accounts. That is the assumption I am going on.
If I should learn anything different, I will certainly pass it along to you.

Hi all – You can begin as many blogs under the same user account as you like, but they are all owned by the same user account with the same username.
If you want an entirely second username, you have to create a second account. Usernames and user accounts are basically the same thing here at WordPress.com. Every username is linked to a unique email address and those two things are what make the account. So, it’s not possible to maintain separate usernames under the same email address/login – this isn’t a Terms of Service problem, it’s just how the accounts work.
I hope this clears things up!

Thank you, eurello!
I really was not trying to be a PITA. You have helped me before and always been courteous, but I thought you were misreading my question and answering a slightly different one. In fact, I was misinterpreting your answer. So, I can do what I proposed and have no issue at all.
Also, your blog is a hoot! As I was reading it last night, I could not help reading bits of it to my wife who enjoyed it, too.
I will try to be a good citizen and not make any more trouble for a few days.

Hi there – Not at all, we’re here to answer questions, and if you’re confused about something, it’s likely other users browsing the forums are, too. :)
Thanks for the kind words about my blog!!
