different posts, specified author?

    I am new to wordpress; I used to use blogger…so I am a bit green about using the site.
    We are two authors of a blog, and I would like to specify who is posting what. I cannot find out how to change that option – shouldn’t it happen automatically? so it will say “posted by xxx” etc. Where would I find this to change it? Right now it just looks like the same person is posting every entry!

    When I change it (if it can be done), will it happen retroactively in the previous posts, or will I have to go back and edit it?

    Thanks for any help/feedback!!

    Here are your options:
    (1) Choose a theme that’s coded to display author’s names;
    (2) Or if you don’t want to change themes then
    ->create a Category for each author’s name that can be assigned to their posts;
    -> or have each author type in a byline at the top of the posts they write – eg. by Jane Doe.

    … shouldn’t it happen automatically?

    WordPress.com does not have in house theme designers who have created egeneric themes with the same universal features. All themes used here are GPL themes created by independent designers who make their own choices when it comes to features to include or not. Consequently, there is no consistency when it comes to theme features like this one.

    You might want to check out http://internetducttape.com for his WordPress.com theme reviews. This is one of the issues he covers.

    The only theme I’m familiar with that posts the author’s names automatically is NeoSapien, but it doesn’t suit everyone.
