Different sidebar photos on each page of a static site?

    I’m setting up a static site and would like to have different sidebar photos on each page instead of the same one throughout; is this possible? I’m using the Twenty Ten template and the site URL is http://www.norwalkquilttrail.org. Thanks in advance for any help.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    I do not know of any way to do that.

    I appreciate your comments, but this is a different issue than my previous post. I apologize if I posted redundantly.

    Okay. :) I have searched and cannot find a way to have different widgets appear on different pages in a wordpress.COM. blog. We cannot use CSS to change theme functionality — we can only affect appearance.

    That seems like a major inadequacy, but coming from a Dreamweaver background, I’m used to being able to customize individual pages. I think if a WP developer could figure this one out it would make a lot of people happy…

    You do understand that this is a multi-user blogging platform, right? :) Every blog here wearing the same theme is using the same template. Only Staff can access those template files and edit theme or templates, as every edit they make affects all blogs wearing the same theme. In case you haven’t already done so, I’m thinking you will benefit from reading this. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    This sort of functionality would have to be built into the theme itself and so far staff have not added any themes that have this functionality. Most themes here are designed by individual theme authors that are not associated with wordpress and then the are modified as required to work within the restrictions and support the unique features here.

    This is something that could be done on some themes here using the CSS upgrade and then hiding individual widgets (by widget ID) from certain pages (by page ID), but this would be a considerable amount of work to accomplish.

    Aha .. your last paragraph is news to me. That sounds like helluva paid job and not a forum freebie to me. ;)

    Yes, I am aware of the pros and cons of WP.com vs. WP.org. In this instance I am following my client’s wishes to execute the site with the .com template since it eventually will be incorporated into another WP.com template.

    I had inquired before getting started and found that a .org template cannot be imported into a .com site, but the reverse is true, if I’m not mistaken.

    One of the disadvantages of working in Dreamweaver with the WYSIWYG interface is that I haven’t needed to learn a lot of CSS. Perhaps this is a good opportunity to do that.

    Thanks again for the input.

    WordPress.COM themes can be problematic when you try to use them on self-hosted blogs since and typically require some tweaking. I’ve done it in the past for a couple clients where the theme they wanted to use on their new self-hosted blog was no longer available for self-hosted blogs, or in one case, had not been updated in over 4 years and would no longer work with the new versions of wordpress.

    Most themes here are also available as self-hosted version that can be found over at wordpress.ORG in /extend/themes/ . Sometimes there have been several upgrades to the themes and they might not look exactly like the version here, but they can usually br brought back to the point you want with a little CSS tweaking.

    @TT, yeah it isn’t hard to do, but it requires a good bit of organization beforehand so that you know what widgets are to be disabled on what pages. As I said, or alluded to, it isn’t something that can be done on all themes here.

    @TSP
    So I wasn’t that far out to lunch — good to know. :)
