Different Types of WordPress

I’m confused about the different kinds of WordPress, I saw on tutorial videos a WordPress editing platform that was grey/black and had all the features. But the one I’m using right now is white and I have limited features and not even able to change the colours on my webpage. I was wondering what was the difference between the two and how do I access the dark colours WordPress

You probably saw instructions for the “old” classic dashboard now only available for people with old existing sites. The new dashboard does have all the same features as the old one, but arranged differently. Perhaps the colour changes you require depends on which theme you use or perhaps (with whichever dashboard you use) you need to upgrade to a Premium plan to use custom CSS.

  • @teyannasmith, you have probably seen tutorials for WordPress.org sites.

To clear up any further confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

We, WordPress.com are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites whereas WordPress.org is a stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

As @themagicrobot explained, those sites will use a different (older) dashboard too.

    I hope that helps :)
