Difficult Customizations

I’m very new to wordpress and website creation in general, so these may be dumb problems/questions.
I am trying to build a site which is simply an interchangeable background image with clickable links scattered throughout. It needs to have a transparent, thin header with no title and the footer can pretty much remain the same.
My problem is that most of the theme’s I’ve found have some limitation, like they allow a background image but you can’t remove the blog post box or you can’t put the links where you need them. Do I need to build my own template to accomplish this?
Any help is very appreciated.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you are unable to find a theme that directly meets all of your needs my best suggestion would be narrowing down your priorities and tracking down a theme that meets your immediate requirements. You can search themes based on key word/requirement at the following link: https://wordpress.com/themes/
Once you have the necessities covered if you are wanting to customize your theme even further you will require access to custom CSS and you will then use your chosen theme as the foundation to build off of. If a particular theme does not have a functionality that you require then will require access to the various plug ins that are available.
None of the above features are available in the free or even the upgraded Personal plan. To gain access to custom themes and custom CSS you will require an upgrade to the Premium plan, and furthermore to gain access to plug ins and premium themes you will need to upgrade to the Business plan.
